Deciding to invest in a Diabetic Alert Dog is a big decision for those living with diabetes and their loved ones. The costs, care, and process are all factors to consider when thinking about adding a service dog to your household. For those that are on the fence, we want you to know how much value our service dogs for Diabetics can add to the lives of those living with and caring for diabetes. Read on to find an SDWR review about a Diabetic who once lived with diabetes interfering with her life. With her service dog by her side, she found support to live a more structured life.

I have owned Charlie, my service dog from Service Dog’s by Warren Retrievers, for a year, and a half. Before receiving Charlie, I was literally living every single day in fear for my life, due to complications of my Type 1 diabetes. I have been unable to feel the symptoms of my low blood sugars for over 3 years now, and had serious daily lows, prior to Charlie. This caused a lot of stress, and fear for myself, and my family. Many 911 calls were made to keep me alive. I knew I needed to make a major decision to change what was happening to me, or I would not live a much longer life. I did a lot of research before choosing an organization, as my life depended on it. SDWR, was the only organization I knew would be able to help me. They not only delivered my dog to me, but they would train for 2 years after I received him, by coming to me. They were the only organization that called back immediately after each call I made to them. They were the only organization that didn’t have a two plus year waiting list. So, I made the decision to go with them, and it was the best decision I ever made.

Since I have received Charlie, he started alerting me from day one. I have not had one single episode of coming close to dialing 911. He has aggressively alerted me to my sugars, well in advance, so I don’t have to worry about an emergency. He has given me my life back! He has given my family peace of mind, knowing I am in safe paws. Owner Dan Warren has remained the same, as the very first day I called to research his organization. He has always contacted me immediately, when I have contacted him. Cheri, and all of the trainers have been exceptional, and have helped me make Charlie the amazing service dog, and companion that he is today. I wouldn’t trade my decision for anything! All of this has happened because SDWR is a reliable, and trustworthy organization, who stands by what they have promised to me, and all other owners of their dogs!Thank you for taking the time to read this.

It’s stories like these that inspire us to deliver miracles to those with invisible illnesses worldwide. The impact of our service dogs for Diabetics is priceless. Every individual wants to find success or happiness in their life. However, living with an invisible illness like diabetes can hinder you or a loved one from reaching that success. With constant care, fear and management,  just staying on top of life’s basic necessities can be time-consuming enough.

At Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers, it’s our mission to help provide service dogs to those with invisible illness. Why? Because service dogs allow those with invisible illness and their families to lead a better quality of life. Our Type 1 Diabetes Alert Dogs are trained to keep you safe from highs and lows. But they do more than just protect from the physical harm of diabetes. They allow the freedom from fear. They allow you to take your mind of your disease and focus on creating a fulfilled life.

We want to you to know how much our diabetes care dogs make a difference in the lives of others. This story is from Allyson, who was able to finish college with her service dog by her side. Read on to find Allyson’s story.

A Diabetic’s Story

“I have had my DAD Lennon for almost two years. I have been a type one for 12 years. I am 22 years old. Before SDWR and Lennon I never talked about my disease. I hid from it and I let it define me as a person. I let it completely control me and I didn’t trust anyone in my life with it. Since joining SDWR and meeting Lennon my life has completely changed. Because of Lennon I am no longer afraid of my disease. I no longer hide from diabetes. I have become and advocate. The shy and soft spoken girl that I was is gone. I am no longer afraid to stand up for myself and I no longer allow Type 1 diabetes to control me and what I can and cannot do.

8 months ago I graduated from College with Lennon by my side. Something that I never thought I would ever be able to do, but I did. The last two years have been challenging but more rewarding than anything I have ever done in my life.

These past 8 months alone have been some of the most difficult times I have ever experienced, but I wouldn’t change those experiences for anything, and Lennon has been by my side fighting with me everyday. SDWR not only brought me a cute (and I mean absolutely adorable) little pup that has the amazing ability to save my life, but they gave me confidence and a family. I have this amazing support system that I couldn’t imagine my life without.

My point is that this journey you are on is well worth every smile and every tear that it will bring you. If I have learned anything over the last two years, it is that you can do anything you set your mind to and SDWR, this family, will be an even bigger blessing than you can ever imagine. Lennon not only saves my life every single day, she makes me a better person every day.”

SDWR Reviews like these are the reason we believe that diabetes care dogs can help all individuals accomplish their dreams. If you or a loved one are interested in learning more about our Type 1 Diabetes Alert Dogs, contact SDWR today.

There are so many ways that diabetes can hold an individual from living to his or her full potential. Fortunately, there is also an answer to some of the challenges that Diabetics can and will face. Independence is almost a worry and a hope that comes across diabetes care takers, as wanting to give independence to their loved ones while still being protected from highs and lows can feel impossible. But as we know, service dogs for Diabetics can make it possible. The fear you face can be lessened through the protective and reliable nature of a diabetes service dog. Learn how Ashton comes one step closer to independence through his Diabetic Alert Dog Scooby,

“This dog has changed Ashton’s life (and ours too). Ashton’s blood sugar is under control for the first time ever. (He was always in the 200s before – when he bothered to check at all – and 300, 400, and even 500s were not unusual). His doctor was amazed to see his A1C in the “excellent” range, and signed off on his driver’s license. He now has a license for the first time – he is almost 20 years old.” Read more here.

Finding Answers Through Pilot, the Diabetic Alert Dog

One of our favorite Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers testimonials – From the Hummel Report

With so many lives affected by diabetes, Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers works endlessly to select, train and provide service to those in need. In this video, we find insights in the life of a family and their Diabetic loved one, Matt. The video begins showcasing the intense care required to keep a Diabetic safe and healthy.  As most diabetes care takers can relate, Matt’s mother Kate mentions, “Diabetes unfortunately takes over the entire house. It’s a beast…everything is about diabetes.”

Until she saw a Diabetic Alert Dog in action, Kate was skeptical about how much value they could add to the life of a family affected by diabetes. She then turned to SDWR for guidance in obtaining a service dog. After a few months of fundraising and community support, Matt’s family took the leap and invested in a service dog from SDWR. It was not long until Pilot entered their life.

Pilot Gives Answers

Throughout the film, we find Kate having concerns over Matt’s safety and quality of life. Like any mother, she wants her child to be able to thrive in any conditios. Through Pilot, her worries are lessened. The fear that permeates a diabetes care taker is always present. In the care of Pilot, Kate finds a peace of mind knowing Pilot is capable of alerting well before Matt hits a high or a low. A simple nudge of paw from Pilot can keep Matt safe.

As Matt grows into an adult, there are concerns about his independence and leading a normal life as a normal kid. Kate wants Matt to be able to live independently at some point, in which she states,

“Just having that independence that every ten year old boy should have…going to a sleepover, going to his friend’s house..those are the things we want for him…there’s a  freedom that you wish for your children that’s gone in that moment when they tell you [about diabetes]..for Matt, it’s just knowing somebody has his back.”

That somebody is Pilot. Through a Diabetic Alert Dog, Matt’s family can find more ease in living an enhanced quality of life.
